COSMETOLOGY: CURLING IRON PROCEDURE for STATE BOARD

+

Step-by-step instruction/class/ training for Beauty School Students, graduates, and foreign cosmetology students to pass the curling iron part of the Blow Dry and Thermal Curling Iron procedure, to get their cosmetology license. At the beginning of the procedure, the examiner would read you the instructions; listen carefully! She would give you 2 minutes to set up, and 10 minutes to finish this procedure. Start only when she will tell you to "start." The requirements state that the applicant/student needs to demonstrate curling 3 curls on the top of the hair previously blow dried during Blow Dry part of this procedure and 4 curls on the side of the hair. The subsection needs not to exceed 3 inches. The temperature of the curling iron needs to be checked on a piece of paper for safety (not to burn the hair). The scalp needs to be protected from the curling iron barrel by using an all purpose or rat tail comb. The croquignole curl could be achieved by starting at the root are of the hear (do not touch the scalp) and curling up the hair strand, periodically clicking the curling iron to not have indentation on the hair. The drape could be changed if soiled. All sanitation and client protection precautions need to be followed. The soiled implements would go into the Soiled Implement Box (labeled the same way). Once you are done with the procedure; step away from your model to indicate the completion of your work. As always, wait for your examiner's instructions. Good luck. Please rate my video.

COSMETOLOGY; BLOW DRY STYLING DEMO for STATE BOARD

+

Step-by-step class/training/instruction for Beauty School Students and graduates preparing to pass the National Practical Test-Exam to get their COSMETOLOGY LICENSE. All requirements are explained and performed for blow dry styling. Blow dry part of the Blow dry and Thermal iron curling exam procedure time limit is 10 minutes (the whole blow dry/curling iron is 20 minutes). Great tips for hairdressers and salon professionals. Here's the WRITTEN PROCEDURE for the BLOW DRY;
1. Wash hands with soap and water.
2, Wait for the examiner's verbal instructions to set up your station within 2 minutes time
3. Set up SMA: Sanitary Maintenance Area; keep it clean all the time
4. The model cold be draped with towel and cloth cape (optional), otherwise treat the model as one client for imagine all the hair procedures, only double draping for chemical procedures. You can keep the drape from previous procedure if it is clean, or replace it, if soiled.
5. Section the hair into 4-5 sections for control (your teacher might have other methods, but, remember that the method does not count, as long as the applicant is following the state board guidelines)
6. Apply gel (optional) for easy blow drying to the areas to be styled; the top and the side section of the front of the head.
7. Blow dry the side section by following the brush with the blow dryer without touching the hair and keeping the warm air away from the scalp and skin around the face, ears, too.
8. Blow dry the front top section of the hair adding volume to the hair.
9. After completing the blow dry, place your soiled implements into the SOILED IMPLEMENT CONTAINER
10. After finishing the procedure MOVE AWAY FROM YOUR MODEL TO INDICATE COMPLETION OF THE BLOW DRY PART OF THE EXAM

Our class has been on the salon floor for a few weeks now and slowly I have been getting more and more comfortable with clients. At first I was extremely cautious and nervous because I don't want to mess up but now I have a little more confidence in what I am doing since we have had a chance to work with clients. Most of my clients have been very nice and understanding about the time we take on our cuts, since we are learning daily! I am loving the products and performing the rituals or moments of wellness on clients too. They include mini facials, scalp and shoulder massage, hand massage and makeup touch-up. I have done mini facials on men after their cut and they seem receptive. I love making people look beautiful and make sure they feel great and are happy with the end product.

Excited & Nervous

+

This week we will be learning about Men's haircuts. I hope I excel in this area as I really want to work with Men more than women. Short hair FTW!

I also heard that men tip more than women. ;) I am loving using the blow dryer after the cut and need to practice with the flat brush and roll brush more often.

Class has started to become more exciting for me. Test tomorrow on haircutting. Eeek! Learning how to correctly hold the shears and comb has been

interesting- I am getting better now, thank goodness. Sectioning has been a bit difficult for me, I should practice at home about a 100 times so that it is even,

straight and proportioned properly. Tonight I spent most of it printing out pics for my portfolio and saving pics of hairstyles I want to use. I will eliminate some as

I think I got too many!

Cheers!
